Tank Inspection & Maintenance
Protecting Your Most Critical Asset — Professional Tank Maintenance Services
A storage tank is not simply a container — it is a precision engineering asset whose integrity directly determines product quality, operational safety, regulatory compliance, and commercial value. ТОО “Astana-Trans-Oil” provides comprehensive tank inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and recertification services for its own assets and as a contracted service to third-party asset owners — helping clients extend tank life, meet statutory inspection requirements, and maintain the highest standards of product integrity and safety.
Tank Cleaning Services
All tanks require periodic cleaning — whether for product change, pre-inspection preparation, maintenance access, or decommissioning. Our tank cleaning teams are trained in the procedures applicable to every product type, working safely within ATEX-classified hazardous area zones using approved equipment and gas-detection protocols.
- Hot and cold water washing for light and medium petroleum product residues
- Chemical cleaning and degreasing for viscous residues, wax deposits, and sludge build-up
- Mechanical sludge removal using vacuum systems and non-sparking tools
- Gas-freeing and atmosphere testing to confirmed safe work environment before personnel entry
Waste slop disposal in compliance with Kazakhstan Environmental Code and MARPOL (for marine tanks)
Tank Inspection Services
Regular inspection is both a safety imperative and a statutory requirement for hazardous industrial objects in Kazakhstan and at all of our international terminal locations. Our inspection programme covers:
- API 653 / GOST-equivalent above-ground storage tank inspection programmes
- Floor scanning — magnetic flux leakage (MFL) scanning to detect bottom plate thinning and corrosion
- Shell plate thickness measurement using ultrasonic testing (UT) — identifying corrosion and metal loss
- Roof structure integrity assessment — floating roof seal condition, pontoon buoyancy, roof drain inspection
- Foundation and anchor bolt inspection — settlement monitoring and structural integrity assessment
- Nozzle and fitting inspection — flange face condition, valve packing, seal integrity
- Cathodic protection system testing — ensuring ongoing corrosion protection effectiveness
- Full written inspection report with fitness-for-service assessment and risk-based inspection interval recommendations
Tank Repair & Structural Work
Where inspection identifies defects — shell plate thinning, weld defects, settlement, roof damage, or foundation issues — our certified repair teams execute remediation work in accordance with API 653, Kazakhstan’s industrial safety regulations, and the original tank design standard. Repair services include:
- Shell plate insert repairs and full course replacements
- Tank floor plate repair and replacement — including annular ring restoration
- Floating roof pontoon repair and buoyancy restoration
- Nozzle and manway replacements
- Foundation grout injection and levelling
- Emergency repair response — rapid mobilisation for in-service tank incidents
Anti-Corrosion Coating & Lining
The internal and external surfaces of petroleum storage tanks are among the most demanding coating environments in industrial service — subject to product immersion, thermal cycling, atmospheric exposure, and cathodic protection interaction. Our coating service provides:
- Internal lining application for product compatibility — epoxy, glass flake, and phenolic systems as appropriate
- External painting to atmospheric exposure standards — zinc primer, tie coat, and finish coats
- Holiday testing (spark testing) of all internal coatings prior to reinstatement
- External cathodic protection installation and replacement — impressed current and sacrificial anode systems
Tank Recertification & Statutory Compliance
In Kazakhstan, petroleum storage tanks classified as hazardous industrial objects must be inspected and recertified at intervals specified by industrial safety law. At our international terminals, inspection intervals are governed by API 653 risk-based intervals or local port authority requirements. Our technical team manages the complete recertification process — from inspection mobilisation through defect repair to final documentation submission to the relevant authority — ensuring our clients maintain uninterrupted operating licences.
